چکیده

Open and closed porous structures with lattice honeycomb geometry can be built using laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing processes. The used to tailor the mechanical properties of a component or provide other functionality, such as for bone ingrowth in medical implants. Porous were created analysed this paper both physically finite element modelling. It was found that accuracy parts reasonable within processes general tolerance +/- 50 μm. However, it noticeable corners square shape pores naturally filleted by process. model developed ANSYS software, stress concentrations observed under loading. In addition this, fragments material present on internal surfaces pores, which formed from partially melted particles.

Contact-Free Support Structures for Part Overhangs in Powder-Bed Metal Additive Manufacturing

This study investigates the feasibility of a novel concept, contact-free support structures, for part overhangs in powder-bed metal additive manufacturing. The intent is to develop alternative support designs that require no or little post-processing, and yet, maintain effective in minimizing overhang distortions. The idea is to build, simultaneously during part fabrications, a heat sink (calle...

Functionalization of Biomedical Ti6Al4V via In Situ Alloying by Cu during Laser Powder Bed Fusion Manufacturing

The modern medical industry successfully utilizes Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) to manufacture complex custom implants. Ti6Al4V is one of the most commonly used biocompatible alloys. In surgery practice, infection at the bone-implant interface is one of the key reasons for implant failure. Therefore, advanced implants with biocompatibility and antibacterial properties are required. Modificatio...

Consolidation phenomena in laser and powder-bed based layered manufacturing

Layered manufacturing (LM) is gaining ground for manufacturing prototypes (RP), tools (RT) and functional end products (RM). Laser and powder bed based manufacturing (i.e. selective laser sintering/melting or its variants) holds a special place within the variety of LM processes: no other LM techniques allow processing polymers, metals, ceramics as well as many types of composites. To do so, ho...
